ON the bleakness of my lot
  Bloom I strove to raise.
Late, my acre of a rock
  Yielded grape and maize.
  
Soil of flint if steadfast tilled        5
  Will reward the hand;
Seed of palm by Lybian sun
  Fructified in sand.
