Frank J. Wilstach, comp. A Dictionary of Similes. 1916.

Julia C. R. Dorr

Chaste as a lily.

Cold as one who waits for burial mould.

Countless as the wraiths of slumber.

Fair as a sculptor’s marble dream.

Gently as falls a mother’s tender speech.

Golden gleams,
Like the bright miracles we see in dreams.

Closely hid as Rameses in the pyramid.

Illusive, like a dream.

New generations pass,
Like shadows on the grass.

Pure as the breath of the fragrant pine.

Slowly as shadows creep at set of sun.

Soft as a baby’s breath.

Soft as spirit’s sigh.

Softly as moonlight steals upon the skies.

Still as if struck with death.
