Frank J. Wilstach, comp.  A Dictionary of Similes.  1916.

Julia C. R. Dorr

  Chaste as a lily.  1
Cold as one who waits for burial mould.  2
Countless as the wraiths of slumber.  3
  Fair as a sculptor’s marble dream.  4
Gently as falls a mother’s tender speech.  5
                Golden gleams,
Like the bright miracles we see in dreams.
  6
Closely hid as Rameses in the pyramid.  7
  Illusive, like a dream.  8
New generations pass,
Like shadows on the grass.
  9
Pure as the breath of the fragrant pine.  10
Slowly as shadows creep at set of sun.  11
  Soft as a baby’s breath.  12
  Soft as spirit’s sigh.  13
Softly as moonlight steals upon the skies.  14
Still as if struck with death.  15
