Ballad of Men
By Yvor Winters

  LIKE long clouds
  On the sky-line,
  All day men come to me.
I stand and watch them sidewise,
  In thought eternally.        5

  And if men pass
  They pass like birds
  With necks craning aside.
And when they pass I know that You
  Or they or I have lied.        10

  And all my life
  And all my sight
  Are scattered like green sea;
There is death in women walking.
  Thus I come unto Thee.        15
