William McCarty, comp. The American National Song Book. 1842.

Two Stanzas: ‘Cornwallis led a country-dance’

Of a ballad much sung during the Revolution

CORNWALLIS led a country-dance;

The like was never seen, sir;

Much retrograde and much advance,

And all with General Greene, sir.

They rambled up and rambled down,

Join’d hands, and off they ran, sir;

Our General Greene to Charleston,

And the earl to Wilmington, sir.
