Ralph Waldo Emerson, comp. (1803–1882). Parnassus: An Anthology of Poetry. 1880.

Morning

William Allingham (1824–1889)

SLEEP is like death, and after sleep,

The world seems new begun,

Its earnestness all clear and deep,

Its true solution won:

White thoughts stand luminous and firm,

Like statues in the sun.

Refreshed from supersensuous founts,

The soul to purer vision mounts.
