A Ditty

By Gilbert Peter Knapp (b. 1855)

[Born in New York, N. Y., 1855.]

TIME hath some secrets he will ne’er disclose,

Strive as we will, we may not all discover;

True to herself, sweet-fashioned as a rose,

Jenny doth live, and yet she hath no lover!

Jenny doth live! ye hearts of slighted worth,

Grieve not though fame with brightest wing doth hover

O’er spirits portionless! Fair as her birth,

Jenny doth live, and yet she hath no lover.
