NOUN: The posterior part of the forebrain that connects the midbrain with the cerebral hemispheres, encloses the third ventricle, and contains the thalamus and hypothalamus. Also called betweenbrain, interbrain, thalamencephalon.
ETYMOLOGY: di(a)– + encephalon.
