NOUN: Any of various plants of the genus Cyclamen, especially a Mediterranean species (C. persicum) widely cultivated as a houseplant, having decorative leaves and showy, variously colored flowers with reflexed petals.
ETYMOLOGY:New Latin Cyclamen, genus name, from Latin cyclamnos, from Greek kuklamnos, probably from kuklos, circle, wheel (perhaps from its bulbous roots). See cycle.
