ETYMOLOGY:Medieval Latin Herms Trismegistus, from Greek Herms trismegistos : Herms, Hermes + trismegistos, thrice greatest ( tris, thrice; see trei- in Appendix I + megistos, greatest; see meg- in Appendix I).
