NOUN:1. Ecclesiastical Solemn prayer or supplication, especially as chanted during the rites of a Rogation Day. Often used in the plural. 2a. The formal proposal of a law in ancient Rome by a tribune or consul to the people for acceptance or rejection. b. A law proposed in this manner.
ETYMOLOGY:Middle English rogacioun, from Latin rogti, rogtin-, from rogtus, past participle of rogre, to ask. See reg- in Appendix I.
