ETYMOLOGY:Middle English limnen, to illuminate (a manuscript), probably alteration (influenced by limnour, illustrator) of luminen, from Old French luminer, from Latin lminre, to illuminate, adorn, from lmen, lmin-, light. See leuk- in Appendix I.
