NOUN:1a. A deciduous Asian tree (Prunus armeniaca) having alternate leaves and clusters of usually white flowers. b. The edible yellow-orange fruit of this tree. 2. A moderate, light, or strong orange to strong orange yellow.
ETYMOLOGY:Alteration of earlier abrecock, ultimately from Arabic al-barqq, the plum : al-, the + barqq, plum (from Greek praikokion, apricot, from Latin praecoquus, ripe early ( prae-, pre- + coquere, to cook, ripen; see pekw- in Appendix I).
