NOUN: A constellation in the Northern Hemisphere near Virgo and Canes Venatici, containing the bright star Arcturus. Boötes is one of the earliest recorded constellations.
ETYMOLOGY:Latin Bots, from Greek bots, plowman, Boötes, from botein, to plow, from bous, ox. See gwou- in Appendix I.
