NOUN:1. A dunghill or refuse heap. 2. Archaeology A mound or deposit containing shells, animal bones, and other refuse that indicates the site of a human settlement. Also called kitchen midden.
ETYMOLOGY:Middle English midding, of Scandinavian origin.
