NOUN:1. Matter that settles on a bottom or collects on a surface by a natural process. Often used in plural: deposit, lees, precipitate, precipitation, sediment. See LEFTOVER. 2. A group of persons regarded as the lowest class. Often used in plural: lumpenproletariat, rabble, ragtag and bobtail, riffraff, trash. Slang : scum. Idioms: scum of the earth, tag and rag, the great unwashed. See OVER, RICH.
