Temporarily unable or unwilling to speak, as from shock or fear: inarticulate, mum, mute, silent, speechless, voiceless, wordless. See WORDS. 3. Lacking in intelligence: blockheaded, dense, doltish, hebetudinous, obtuse, stupid, thickheaded, thick-witted. Informal : thick. Slang : dimwitted, dopey. See ABILITY.
