§ 281. teach


What’s wrong with teaching school? Some grammarians have objected to the use of teach as a transitive verb when its object denotes an institution of learning, as in Kim teaches grade school. But this use of teach has been around since the 17th century and has wide currency at all levels. There’s no reason to shy away from it.    1
