Clément, Jacques

(zhäk klmäN´) (KEY) , 1567–89, French Dominican monk, assassin of Henry III of France. An adherent of the League, he thought Henry a danger to the Church because of his recognition of a Protestant successor. Clément was killed by the king’s attendants immediately after the stabbing.
