Elizabeth, Saint, daughter of King Andrew II of Hungary
 
 
1207–31, daughter of King Andrew II of Hungary and wife of Landgrave Louis II of Thuringia. She is called St. Elizabeth of Hungary. She led a simple life, personally tended the sick and the poor, and spent long hours at prayer. After the death of her husband (1227) she saw to it that her children’s welfare was taken care of and retired to a small cottage near Marburg. There, under the spiritual direction of Conrad of Marburg, she led an austere life. St. Elizabeth died at the age of 23. Feast: Nov. 19.
