(fränth s´k h l d täb ä´thä th l ´m s) (KEY) , d. 1809, Spanish colonial administrator. After serving as viceroy of New Granada (1789), he was viceroy of Peru (179096). In Peru he introduced administrative reforms, encouraged the arts, and sent out exploring expeditions. Returning to Spain, he became a member of the governing junta after Ferdinand VII fled before Napoleon. |
