Gilroy
 
 
city (1990 pop. 31,487), Santa Clara co., W Calif.; inc. 1870. Located in the fertile Santa Clara valley, Gilroy supports diversified agriculture, including vineyards, orchards, dairy and mushroon farms, and plant nurseries. It produces food, fabricated-metal, and paper products. Gilroy has also benefited from the high-technology microelectronics industry in the area. Gavilan College is in the city. Gilroy hosts an annual garlic festival, and Bonfante Gardens, a botanic gardens and amusement park, is there. Mt. Madonna County Park, with its redwood stands, is nearby.
