(hndwä´rä) (KEY) , Hung. Vajdahunyad, city (1990 pop. 89,873), W central Romania, in Transylvania. A major industrial center, it has extensive ironworks and steelworks. Iron ore and coal are mined nearby. The city is noted for its historic Hunyadi Castle, built in the 15th cent. on the site of an old citadel.
