Juchitán
 
 
(hchtän´) (KEY)  or Juchitán de Zaragoza (hchtän´ th säräg´sä) (KEY) , town (1990 pop. 53,666), Oaxaca state, S Mexico. Located on the Juchitán River in a vast expanse of flat, fertile plain only slightly above sea level, the old town rivals Tehuantepec (20 mi/ 32 km to the east) as the cultural center of the Zapotec. It is linked to Veracruz and the Guatemala border by railroad and is on the Inter-American Highway.
