(käsh wä´zäk ) (KEY) , city (1990 pop. 88,309), Niigata prefecture, central Honshu, Japan, on the Japan Sea. A resort town known for its hot springs, Kashiwazaki produces petrochemicals, machinery, automobile parts, computer printers, glass, and lumber. Fishing also is important, and a large nuclear power plant is there. The city suffered extensive damage from an earthquake in 2007. |
