Lalemant, Gabriel
 
 
(Saint Gabriel Lalemant) (gäbrl´ lälmäN´) (KEY) , 1610–49, French Jesuit missionary in North America, nephew of Charles Lalemant and Jérôme Lalemant, one of the Jesuit Martyrs of North America. He entered the order in 1630 and was sent to Quebec in 1646. He was assistant to Jean de Brébeuf at a mission among the Huron when a band of Iroquois took the village and tortured the priests to death. Feast: Sept. 26 or (among the Jesuits) Mar. 16.
