Leoncavallo, Ruggiero

(rd-j´r l´´nkäväl´l) (KEY) , 1857–1919, Italian composer. The opera Pagliacci (1892), his one outstanding success, is a classic example of Italian verismo, or realism. Of his numerous other operas, only Zazà (1900) had moderate success.
