(mämz´br) (KEY) , town (1991 pop. 2,552), Wiltshire, S England. Agricultural and electrical engineering are important to the local economy. Malmesbury is famous for its Benedictine abbey, founded in the 12th cent., of which only the nave remains. King Athelstan of Wessex was buried there. Thomas Hobbes was born nearby.
