Park City

town (1990 pop. 4,468), Summit co., N central Utah, in the Wasatch Range. A former mining town whose silver and other deposits were mined out, it was a nearly ghost town by the 1950s but has since become a major skiing center and a bedroom community for Salt Lake City and Provo-Orem. Growth followed discovery of silver and lead (1868); George Hearst made millions from the Ontario Mine. A fire destroyed much of the town in 1898. The Sundance Film Festival is held in Park City, as were skiing events during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
