(pär´´näsôs´) (KEY) or Parnassus (pärn ´s s) (KEY) , mountain, c.8,060 ft (2,460 m) high, Phocis, central Greece. In ancient Greece it was sacred to Apollo, Dionysus, and the Muses. The fountain of Castalia was on its slopes; at the foot of the mountain lay Delphi. Corycian Cave, sacred to Pan, is located between Delphi and the summit. Bauxite is mined on the slopes. |
