(r th´ rgl n) (KEY) , town (1991 pop. 24,900), South Lanarkshire, S central Scotland, on the Clyde River. Manufactures include chemicals, paper, textiles, and metal products. Rutherglen became a royal burgh in 1126 and was for some time one of the leading Clyde ports. There, in 1679, the Covenanters published the Declaration and Testament which preceded the battles of Drumclog and Bothwell Bridge. |
