Woodberry, George Edward
18551930, American poet, critic, and teacher, b. Beverly, Mass., grad. Harvard, 1877. He was professor of English at the Univ. of Nebraska (188082) and at Columbia (18911904). Typical of his work as a minor poet is The Ideal Passion: Sonnets (1917). Besides much literary criticism, he wrote scholarly biographies of Poe and Hawthorne.
