QUOTATION:I realise that patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone.

Guilty of breaking the rules of war by using her status as a Red Cross nurse to help Allied prisoners escape from German-occupied territory, Cavell spoke these words to her chaplain, Rev. Stirling Gahan, shortly before her execution in Brussels as a spy (October 11, 1915).
