Following a partial repeal of the United Kingdom's arms embargo on Argentina in late 1998, Prince Charles visited the nation and paid tribute to the Argentine soldiers who died in the Falkland (Malvinas) Islands conflict of the early 1980s.	1

International leaders signed a pact restoring commercial air connections between Argentina and the Falkland Islands.	2

Fernando de la Rua, opposition party leader and mayor of Buenos Aires, won Argentina's presidential election. He took office on Dec. 10.	3
