head, head up (v.)


You can head a corporation or you can head up a corporation; these days both are Standard. Some commentators, however, consider the up an excrescence, acceptable only (if at all) in Informal and Conversational use, and some Edited English will not allow it. Assess your readers’ expectations carefully.	1
