| Fullerton, city (1990 pop. 114,144), Orange co., S Calif., suburb, 21 mi/34 km SE of downtown Los Angeles, and 3 mi/4.8 km N of Anaheim, SE of Los Angeles; 33°53'N 117°56'W. The city is named for George H. Fullerton, head of a land company, who arranged to route the San Diego–Los Angeles–Santa Fe RR through the settlement in 1888. Oil was discovered near Fullerton in 1892, but the city’s main growth came with the construction of the Santa Ana Freeway in the 1950s. Among Fullerton’s manufactures are aerospace equip., canned food prods., electrical and electronic components, navigation systems, and laboratory instruments. Oil wells in city. Fullerton Municipal Airport to W. Fullerton Col. (2-year) and Calif. State Univ., Fullerton are in the city. Muckenthaler Center houses 2 symphony orchestras, a theater group, and art galleries. Coyote Hills to NW; Brea Reservoir in N, Fullerton Reservoir in NE. Founded 1887, inc. 1904. |
