Front Royal, city (1990 pop. 11,880),  Warren co., N Va., 19 mi/31 km S of Winchester, near junction of South Fork and North Fork of Shenandoah R. (which form the river), at N end of Skyline Drive (Shenandoah Natl. Park extension of Blue Ridge Parkway); 38°55'N 78°10'W. RR junction. Mfg. (wooden doors, windows and cabinets, automotive paints, furniture, lumber, modular homes, concrete, fiberglass pipe and fittings, printing and publishing, chemicals, foods and beverages, canning); limestone quarrying. Skyline Caverns to S attract tourists. Part of George Washington Natl. Forest (Massanutten Mt.) is W. Site of Confederate victory during Shenandoah Valley campaign of Civil War.
