Front Royal, city (1990 pop. 11,880), Warren co., N Va., 19 mi/31 km S of Winchester, near junction of South Fork and North Fork of Shenandoah R. (which form the river), at N end of Skyline Drive (Shenandoah Natl. Park extension of Blue Ridge Parkway); 38°55'N 78°10'W. RR junction. Mfg. (wooden doors, windows and cabinets, automotive paints, furniture, lumber, modular homes, concrete, fiberglass pipe and fittings, printing and publishing, chemicals, foods and beverages, canning); limestone quarrying. Skyline Caverns to S attract tourists. Part of George Washington Natl. Forest (Massanutten Mt.) is W. Site of Confederate victory during Shenandoah Valley campaign of Civil War. Christendon Col. to NE. Front Royal Warren Co. Airport to W. Inc. 1788.
