Bertie (BUHR-tee), county (741 sq mi/1,919 sq km; 1990 pop. 20,388), NE N.C.; Windsor; 36°03'N 76°57'W. On Atlantic coastal plain; bounded S and SW by Roanoke R., E by Chowan R. and Albermarle Sound; drained by Cashie R. Agr. (peanuts, tobacco, corn, cotton, wheat, oats, soybeans, sorghum; chickens, cattle, hogs); fishing. Timber (gum, pine). Formed 1722.
