Cobá (ko-BAH), historic site (80 sq mi/207 sq km), in N Quintana Roo, Mexico, 27 mi/44 km NW of Tulum. Cobá is on the Maya Route. The Cobá ruins surround L. Cobá and 4 small lakes outside of the village of Cobá. This ceremonial center dates A.D. 600900 and is believed to have had 50,000 residents at its peak. Nochul Mul, a 138-ft/42-m-high pyramid is the tallest in N Yucatán.
