East Greenwich, town (1990 pop. 11,865), Kent co., central R.I., on Greenwich Bay, and 11 mi/18 km S of Providence; 41°38'N 71°30'W. Industrial center (Quonset Point and Davisville Industrial Complex) in agr. area; textiles and shipbuilding; potatoes; clam and oyster fisheries. East Greenwich Acad. (1802) here; former site of Naval Air Station at nearby Quonset Point. Includes village of East Greenwich. Inc. 1677.
