East Hartford, urban town (1990 pop. 50,452), Hartford co., central Conn., on the Connecticut R. opposite Hartford; settled c.1640, inc. 1783; 41°45'N 72°37'W. East Hartford is a trucking and warehousing center. The town is heavily industrialized and also has technology-based facilities. Among the chief manufactures are fabricated steel, precision parts, aircraft engines, appliances, paper, television and radio parts, stamp and die plates, small tools, machinery, metal- working, bulk oil storage and distribution, storage warehouses, retail sales, auto dealerships, and banking and insurance.
