Charlevoix (SHAHR-luh-voi), town (1990 pop. 3,116), Charlevoix co., NW Mich., on narrow isthmus bet. L. Charlevoix (SE) and L. Michigan (NW), 44 mi/71 km N NE of Traverse City; 45°18'N 85°15'W. In agr. area (potatoes, seed); mfg. (candles, transportation equip., store display racks, pollution control systems). Resort. Has Coast Guard station and U.S. fish hatchery. Ferry service to Beaver Isl. (St. James) from here. Airport to SW. Fisherman’s Isl. State Park to SW. Settled 1852; inc. as village 1879, as city 1905.
