| Eulalie (St.). | |
Eulalon is one of the names of Apollo; but in the calendar there is a virgin martyr called Eulalie, born at Merida, in Estramadura. When she was only twelve years old, the great persecution of Diocletian was set on foot, whereupon the young girl left her maternal home, and, in the presence of the Roman judge, cast down the idols he had set up. She was martyred by torture, February 12th, 308. | 1 |
Longfellow calls Evangeline the Sunshine of St. Eul lie. | 2 |
