Homer’s Critics.
Dorotheus spent his whole life trying to elucidate one single word of Homer.   1
   Zoilos (3 syl.), the grammarian, was called “Homer’s Scourge” (Homromastix), because he assailed the Iliad and Odyssey with merciless severity.   2
   As some deny that Shakespeare is the author of the plays which are generally ascribed to him, so Wolf, a German critic (1759–1824), in his Prolegomena ad Homrum, denies that Homer was the author of the Iliad and Odyssey.   3
