All the sons of the sovereigns of Spain and Portugal bear this title, except the crown prince, who is called in Spain the Prince of Asturias. In the Middle Ages the word childe was used as a title of honour in England, France, and Germany; hence Childe Harold, Childe-ric, Childe-bert, etc.
