Robert Bridges, ed. (1844–1930).  The Spirit of Man: An Anthology.  1916.

From Poems

Emily Bronte (1818–1848)

FALL, 1 leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;
Lengthen night and shorten day:
Every leaf speaks bliss to me,
Fluttering from the autumn tree:

I shall smile when wreaths of snow        5
Blossom where the rose should grow:
I shall sing when night’s decay
Ushers in the drearier day.

Note 1. Emily Bronte. At p. 280 of Shorter’s Ed. [back]
