From Walking in Scotland

John Keats (1795–1821)

SCANTY 1 the hour, and few the steps, beyond the bourn of care!
Beyond the sweet and bitter world,—beyond it unaware!
Scanty the hour, and few the steps; because a longer stay
Would bar return and make a man forget his mortal way!..

Note 1. Keats. From the poem Walking in Scotland, written in the Highlands after a visit to the Burns Country. July, 1818. [back]
