Lady Macbeth
Enjoy the Oxford Shakespeare with a Side of Lambs’ Tales

The brother-and-sister writing team Charles and Mary Lamb delivered a “landmark in the history of the romantic movement” upon the publication of Tales from Shakespeare in 1807. Intended to make the 20 best plays of Shakespeare accessible for the young reader, Mary Lamb wrote most of the prose translation, unifying it with the verse of the Immortal Bard. This Ainger edition includes a dozen color plates by Gertrude Hammond.

Intended to inspire one on to read the original, Bartleby.com offers the full-text of both Lambs’ Tales and The Oxford Shakespeare.
