A Family History Time flies, and pieces of stories from a family vanishes in time. The best way to record those disappearing valuable history is to record them in writing. There are too many stories to tell and want I am going to write about is the key part of my family history, which makes my family a family. The story is about my great-grandfather Zhiyun, my grandfather Liangai.
Three Generations Before Us
My great-grandfather Zhiyun was born in 1901 in Guangzhou, China. He received education of relatively higher quality than the average Chinese people had in his early ages. At the age of twenty, he was given the opportunity of being one of the first few foreign exchange students to the United States by the Republic of China government to learn the advanced technologies and political system from western countries. He graduated from University of Pennsylvania in 1926 with a dual degree in agriculture and math. As a program requirement between US and Chinese government, my great-grandfather came back to his home country after finishing his undergraduate degree in the States.
After Zhiyun came back to China, he was working as math department chair in Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou before the beginning of World War II. He met my great-grandmother during his time working in Sun Yat-sen University and my grandfather Liangai was born in the year, when China and Japan declared war to each other, 1937. World War II affected China not as a nation but also as each individual
