My honest thought on argumentation prior to starting this course were that argumentation was going to very easy. I simply thought that it would consist of arguing with someone back and forth trying to get my point across. But i was wrong, base off my pro/con speech and the few chapters that we have covered i've realized that argumentation is more complex than what i had expected it to be. There is different ways that someone can go about when state their claim using Rogerian argumentations style or using Aristotle’s rhetorical appeals or other forms of argumentation styles. After my speech i realized that a clear and controversial topic is needed in order to see both sides of the claim. Aside from a topic research is very important it must be credible the more credibility one has the better are your chances of persuading the audience. Now i see argumentation as a process of reasoning that must consist of organized information and credible sources. What surprised me about my topic was how hard it was trying to find credible information. There was a lot of information but a lot of it wasn't credible, there was also a lot of information but the data wasn't from the United States it was it foreign countries so it was no good for me. However i did find scholarly articles and other credible sources i just had to really dig to find the information. Students in Canada are being tested using the WISC-IV and WISC-V, when many of them are not proficient in English. A study was conducted to determine if the WISC-IV and WISC-V linguistic factors were affecting the overall performance on the test. Across the nation and world assisted suicide is an issue that has been gaining attention for several years. With famous cases such as Jack Kevorkian it has become a household term and everyone has an opinion. There are strong cases on both sides, but the bottom line is while it may sound good for the present, it is not for the future. Computers and technological devices have been heavily used in millions of elementary classrooms throughout the world. While many people believe this is a beneficial thing some think it is taking over the traditional ways of learning and damaging their social interaction. All the colors and sounds on the screen attract children and make them think that what they are learning is fun and enjoyable. Using computers in the classroom is very beneficial, but it should not be replacing traditional ways of education. As Elizabeth Bohnhorst, author of Floppy Disk Fallacies, stated “…computers are being used more and more frequently as a substitute for books, blackboards, and in some cases, the teachers themselves (251-252)”. Students will soon not have the need to bring pencils, paper, and even a backpack to class because everybody will be using computers as a means of learning. Moreover, computers should be used only as a tool to assist learners and make certain tasks accomplishable more efficiently while also keeping traditional ways of learning.
Hunting is considered one of America’s most famous and traditional past times. Fathers around the nation, with high hopes of teaching their children the ropes, are constantly threatened by the chances of hunting being exterminated. For the average person, this problem isn’t established by the threatening blows made on our constitutional amendments; instead, the main threat for your average hunter revolves around finding areas to carry out this tradition. Unfortunately, this problem could very-well be the terminal endpoint of fathers observing their children harvest their first big game animal. As an advocate for hunting and any sport revolving around the great outdoors, I constantly sweat over the thought of one day finding myself unable to pursue a passion that I love, strictly because finding areas to hunt on is nearly impossible because of other people’s actions.
Sexual thoughts pop in and out of most people’s mind, but especially teenagers, and there’s nothing they can do about it. It is normal for teenage boys and girls to experience this, more than ever when they are hitting puberty. The hormones in the body begin to act up and teenagers want to experience other things on their own. Males begin to grow pubic and facial hairs, and their voice starts to deepen, while girls’ breasts begin to develop and their body begins to take shape. America is a country with many beliefs that seem to be hypocritical, for they appear to not be followed by it’s citizens and government. It is common to hear about this country being a place where everyone is respected and has their own rights. The National Anthem of the United States of America proclaims this country as “The land of the free and the home of the brave.” But it is questionable whether this line is true or not in terms of it’s significance. Much oppression, injustice, and prejudice can be found today towards non-white people and those who are socially “inferior.” By the looks of things, it seems that America has not reached it’s goal of achieving true racial and social equality. There are many realistic examples of the modern United States that show that the country will never achieve such goal. Indeed, one can see these events and conclude that America is not the land of the free, for other groups of people are mistreated for being of another race, or simply for being “inferior” to the eyes of society. Even some famous writings by authors prove that the U.S. will never achieve true racial and social equality. Harper Lee’s novel To Kill A Mockingbird is an example of such proof. In the plotline, a girl named Scout watches how her attorney-father tries to defend a black man against the prejudice of her hometown of Maycomb, Alabama. With this information, one can see how even a fictional story can present the prejudice and injustice

The decision to conduct a cursory search of the residence, in hindsight, was deemed wrong because of the lack of manpower, the search provided a false sense of security for the homeowner and ultimately was ineffective in locating the fugitives. This dilemma is a difficult one. The lack of manpower coupled with no evidence placing the fugitives in the residence would have made me rethink conducting the cursory search. The searches being conducted in the neighborhood had one mission and that was to find the fugitives not to give each homeowner peace of mind. Our topic is the societal impacts of technology, but because technology has drastically changed the way the entire world functions, the three authors have decided to narrow focus on two aspects of life: economics and mental health. While the two areas may seem incompatible, the economic state of a country directly affects the mental health of its citizens, and the economic estate relies on individuals. In order to accurately depict the two areas of effect, the author's focus is the United States, but compare technology use and mental health rates in the United States to the technology use and mental health rates of both China and Russia in order to generate a better understanding of American society. By understanding the impact of technology on economics and mental health, individuals are capable of making informed decisions about technology use, in doing so they directly impact their surrounding society.
As in the entire book, in the chapter “Analyzing Arguments” the authors write to college students, particularly college freshmen. In this chapter the writers emphasize the importance of critically analyzing arguments provided by different sources and the reasons given by each. The authors wrote this chapter with the objective of explaining and aiding students by providing them with the skills required to accurately scrutinize other’s reasoning. Throughout “Analyzing Arguments” the authors demonstrate their authority and knowledge on the subject being discussed by explaining and simplifying the procedure of analyzing arguments.
Rt. was receptive to writer while completing psycho-social.Rt.appears to be in a better place and is motivated to continue life to complete his goals. Rt. currently is also motivated into getting a job to be active and to get out of his financial difficulties. Rt. hopes to continue down the path of recovering from his mental illness by adhering to psychiatric treatment.
We discussed the emotions, feelings, and what he is wanting when he "cuts", and when in his life this has produced his desired results. We also discussed alternatives to cutting. BC appears to be impulsive and has a difficult time thinking in the moment, so he was asked not to isolate when he becomes emotionally dysregulated. He was asked to get permission to go outside to either the back or front yard, and/or if possible go for a walk, to give himself a moment to think of other ways to self-sooth like writing his feelings down on paper or playing his guitar, something he says has worked in the past.
