Chaucer, Geoffrey. The father of English poetry; born in London about 1340; died there, Oct. 25, 1400. His ‘Canterbury Tales’ is his most celebrated work. Among the others are: ‘Troilus and Criseyde’; ‘The Parlement of Fowles’; ‘Boke of the Duchesse’; ‘The Hous of Fame’; ‘The Legend of Good Women’; and minor poems and translations.
